kNOw One Place: A Creative Placemaking Forum

kNOw One Place

An ambitious, future-thinking discussion on how communities can use creativity to lead the development of their places.

Through a mixture of open space discussion and expert reflection, exhibition and original artworks, we hope to draw people from public, private, independent and charitable sectors to share and co-create an agenda for creativity and placemaking for the future.

We define Creative Placemaking as: a community led approach that uses creative activity to support collective decision-making and positive change for people and the places they live.

You Are Invited to Participate in active discussion and exploration on Creative Placemaking on 23 September 2022

The event, at Loreburn Hall in Dumfries, is an open invitation to those interested in this approach to community-led creative work to interrogate the wider relevance of this work and how to maximise its impact for people and the places they live.

The Forum will build on preparatory work and learning from the wide range of participants in the pilot What We Do Now project using this as a foundation for a national conversation about developing Creative Placemaking practice.

For those that would like to join us in person for the Forum on September 23, please register your interest by emailing [email protected], or click the button below, and we will get back to you with more details (due to venue and catering requirements places for the Forum are limited).

If you are unable to attend in person but would like to participate in the event, we will be producing a Live Streamed Programme of the kNOw One Place Forum, available via this website, to share key elements from the day for a wider and global audience. As part of this we will have live interaction across our socials to bring questions you have into the physical space

Both the in-person Forum and the Live Streamed Digital Programme will be fully BSL interpreted.

The Full Event Programme Includes:

  • A series of Digital Events leading up to the in-person Forum to unearth new perspectives on people and power, place, space, and practice. This series hosts some of the country’s most exciting artists, thinkers, and producers at the front line of social art, wellbeing, economy, activism, and community development.
  • The launch of ‘Your Place’ an exhibition of photographs and film documenting the first 12 months of the What We Do Now creative placemaking project across five towns in Dumfries and Galloway. Thursday 22 September, 7pm, The Smithy, High Street, Dumfries)
  • Also a guided tour of the Midsteeple Quarter initiative by the MSQ team. Thursday 22 September, 7.30pm, The Press (117 High Street, Dumfries)
