Art Cabin arrives in North West Dumfries

A new community space for North West Dumfries reached an important milestone recently with the arrival of the Art Cabin in Dunlop Road.

Working together, What We Do Now (WWDN) project artists (Alice Francis, Rosie Giblin, and Andy Brooke) and the Place Hub (LIFT D&G) engaged with the wider community and initiated a plan for a new community space for residents of the high flats on Dunlop Road.

Project partners DGHP donated a portacabin as the venue for the Art Cabin. Following the granting of planning permission in early August, DGHP immediately arranged for the portacabin to be transported and positioned in its new home.

Over the next few months, WWDN artists will work with residents to transform the portacabin into the Art Cabin that they have originally imagined, and the local community can begin to use it.

“This is a massive boost for the project and very empowering for everyone involved to see an idea come to life in this way. The Art Cabin will be a place where creative activities can happen, where people can talk and plan together for community projects and others can come to find out what is happening locally.”
