South Scotland on Lonely Planet top travel list 2023

The south of Scotland is has been named on of the top 30 global destinations for 2023 in the Lonely Planet’s Best in Travel guide.

It highlights southern Scotland’s “extensive forest cover” “bustling market towns” “sandy stretches of coastline” and historic links to figures such as Robert Burns and Walter Scott.

The research is split up into five sections — Eat, Journey, Unwind, Connect and Lear. Each place is chosen for its topicality, unique experiences, ‘wow factor, and ongoing commitment to sustainability, community and diversity.

South Scotland was named in the ‘learn’ category.
