On the River Nith, Sanquhar is the most northerly town in the region and is notable for the tiny post office, established in 1712 and considered the oldest working post office in the world.
Upper Nithsdale Arts and Crafts Community Initiative (UNACCI) is a community-led organisation established in 2010. Also known as A’ the Airts, the centre was created by local people to develop unique art-based services and products for the community. It has grown in strength and provides an outlet for local artists and crafters to sell their products, a hub that local people and visitors come to experience, and a space where community and schools can come together.
Through classes, workshops, skills exchange, partnership, collaboration, arts, heritage, and retail, service users can purchase and sell arts-based products and develop new skills as individuals and communities.
Exploring the themes of Connection and Possibility, Saskia Coulson and Colin Tennant are currently collaborating with A’ the Airts.
