Travelling Gallery Returns to Dumfries & Galloway

Travelling Gallery Returns to Dumfries & Galloway

Date of Post:

We are thrilled to welcome the return of the Travelling Gallery into D&G for their Autumn 2026 Exhibition! The Travelling Gallery is an exhibitor on wheels, reaching far and wide to deliver art and culture free of charge to communities of Scotland since 1978. It is a small space but mighty inspiring, with a bus load of ideas to spark creativity in the local community. The Gallery has visited Dumfries and Galloway in the past through their established partnership with WWDN, exhibiting Helen McCrorie’s Repair Cafe in 2024 and In Another Realm in 2025. This year, we have waved them back into the region to deliver their new project.

The Autumn 2026 programme, User Interface: Coded Craft, invited the works of Jeni Allison, Naomi Mcintosh, Lynne MacLachlan, Liu Qiwei, Aymeric Renoud, Soorin Shin, Sanne Visser, Silvia Weidenbach & Sandra Wilson aboard the bus. This curated team of contemporary artists and makers aim to expand their traditional craft with modern ideas and digital technology. In blending tradition and modernity, the artists share a focus on “how contemporary craft can play a significant role in pursuing ecological innovation for a more sustainable future.” In this exhibition, historic handcrafts such as jewellery crafting, carpentry, sculpture and ceramics have been used to shape ideas of our future with the practiced hands of the past.

Additionally, WWDN’s Creative Spaces Associate, Craig Duncan, will be hosting a pop up workshop alongside the Gallery exploring play within a digital space and using pixel art to develop some of the inspirations found within the exhibition. This workshop welcomes all ages and curious minds!

The Travelling Gallery, along with Craig, will park up and open their doors in our community on Tuesday 13th October and Wednesday 14th October. A huge thank you to both sites for hosting – we can’t wait to see the bus there in all its glory!

Catch The Travelling Gallery at one of the two stops along the way:

Tuesday 13th October | 10:00 – 16:00 | Crannog Centre, Lochside Park, Castle Douglas
Wednesday 14th October | 10:00 – 16:00 | Old School Thornhill

We hope to see you aboard!
