A Look Back at 2022

As we approach the end of 2022, we reflect on the many highlights from What We Do Now and look ahead to the expansion and evolution in 2023.
So here are just a few of the many highlights from the year.
JAN/FEB | We shared updates from across all of the five place hubs, Castle Douglas, Dumfries, Langholm, Sanquhar, and Stranraer. |
MARCH | The new What We Do Now website was finalised and the Instagram page launched, helping share our story and showcase the work taking place across the region. |
APRIL | Young people who had been exploring Sanquhar life through a lens and documenting what it is like to grow up in the town hosted their first exhibition – Sanquhar in Focus. |
MAY | The willow weaving workshops in Langholm continued, with the creation of Egg:Pods |
JUNE | Rosie, Alice, and Andy in Dumfries got together to look at the next steps for their project and found out how long it takes to bake a potato on a fire! |
JULY | Lots going on, including the Stranraer exhibition and release of the song for Stranraer, pop-up circus workshops and the Party in the Park in Castle Douglas. |
AUGUST | The portacabin arrived in Dumfries ready for its transformation into the ArtCabin in 2023. |
SEPTEMBER | kNOw One Place, an ambitious, future-thinking discussion on how communities can use creativity to lead the development of their places took place in Dumfries. Take a look at the round up report. |
OCTOBER | We gathered, collated, and shared the many reflections and updates from kNOw One Place. |
NOVEMBER | Lockerbie became part of What We Do Now and we announced the creative commission opportunity. |
DECEMBER | ‘Echoes in Eternity: The Story of What We Do Now (so far)’ film was screened at The Stove Cafe and released on the WWDN website. |
We are so excited about what is coming up in 2023 including developing a digital hub for young people in Sanquhar, the launch of the ArtCabin in Dumfries, and the new work set to take place in Lockerbie.
That is just a taste of what’s to come!
